Tonto Dikeh Dates Fred Nuamah

Nollywood’s current hottest, richest and pretty-faced young actress, Tonto Dike, who once dated Nigerian top music producer, Don Jazzy, has found the best rhythm to her heart’s desire in Ghana, www.africanmoviestar.com has gathered.

The light-skinned actress, a close source told this medium, is having a clandestine love affair with Ghanaian new actor and producer, Fred Nuamah, who also doubles as manager of Ghana’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko and an erstwhile radio presenter.

Not surprisingly, the two suspected lovebirds have denied having any amorous relationship. While the actor said he does not even know the sexy-lipped actress, she on the other hand informed that they are ‘just friends’.

A couple of weeks ago, Tonto was in Ghana to shoot her new movie with Young Father Productions, owned by Samuel Ruffy of ‘Honey Kuchi-Kuchi’ advert fame. Fred, according to a  reliable source, was all over the place with Tonto.

On three different occasions, in the middle of the night, Fred was allegedly spotted sneaking in and out of the Genesis Hotel, located off the Accra-Kasoa road, where the actress had lodged.

Tonto, the source continued, could not make time to complete her production and had to leave for Nigeria. Some members of the production, the source said, blamed Fred for Tonto’s inability to finish shooting. Fred, the source disclosed, came to pick Tonto up while on set “and that was the end”.

The next time the production heard of the two, they were at the Kotoka International Airport as she sneaked out of the country.

However, the movie’s director, John Izedonmi, who confirmed Tonto’s inability to finish her job while in Ghana, said Fred could not be blamed.

“Fred has nothing to do with Tonto’s failure to complete the movie. It is not just possible that he would walk to location and pick her like that. Apparently, Tonto might have thought she had completed shooting her role and asked Fred to pick her up.

It was after she left that the Production Assistant (PA), after looking through the script, realized that she was left with four more scenes to do,” he said.

According to him, Tonto would be returning sometime soon to complete her scenes.

We gathered that a few days after Tonto left the country, Fred followed her to Nigeria “to continue from where they left off”’. But when contacted, the dark-skinned and afro hair-styled gentleman, in his reaction, said he does not even know Tonto Dike.

He admitted going to Nigeria, but said he was in that country to see Ramsey Nouah over his up-coming movie.

Sadly, however, Tonto let the cat out of the bag when in a telephone interview she said Fred was a friend.

Hear her: “I have a relationship with Fred? Are you kidding me? Is that what people are saying? That is very funny. It is a stupid rumour to me. Fred is my friend just like every other person that I have met. I do not have any amorous relationship with Fred.”

Efforts to get Fred to react to Tonto’s claim proved futile as his close associates said he had left for Las Vegas to oversee arrangements for Joseph Agbeko’s next fight.

Ramsey Nouah however confirmed Fred’s trip to Nigeria  saying, “Yeah, he came looking for me a couple of days back. He came to see me. He came to drop a script for me. He called me and we had an appointment. That’s it.”

Frank Rajah also confirmed reports that he introduced Fred to Tonto but denied they are dating.

“Tonto is my good friend and when I was going to pick her, Fred went with me and everybody in the industry knows Fred is a very kind-hearted person. When Tonto met him, she liked him because the guy is a kind-hearted person and they related very well.

When Tonto was leaving, she called Fred to pick her up to the airport and he went to take her straight to the airport.

So I don’t see anything wrong with being a friend to somebody. Fred is a friend to everybody in the industry. Many of the Nigerian stars who come here stay in his house,” he concluded.

The Princess Of My Life

By Ali Baylay

A Devine Touch Film; Starring: Ini Edo, Desmond Elliot, Tonto Dikeh, Muna Obiekwe, Kofi Adjorlolo, Casandra Odita; Editor: Uche Ike; Producers: Emeka Igwemba, Kinsley Okereke, Ikechukwu Onyeka; Executive Producers: Eriobi Chibuzor, Nwegwu Hinweike; Assitant Director: B.B.C Nwachineke; Director: Ikechukwu Onyeka. 146 mins. c2008

Have you ever been asked by a friend what the book you’re reading is about, and you can’t tell in one sentence unless you tell the whole story? That is how The Princess Of My Life  is structured. A plot drift I could call it. A plot drift occurs when the writer couldn’t decide who the central character in the story is, and the viewer is treated to a kind of all-you-can-view buffet of plots.

In The Princess Of My Life, plot lines go like this: old friends meet at a tennis court and resume acquaintance and out of which a business deal is struck; then both of their children gets acquainted over a dinner at one of the parent’s home, and both children end in each other’s arm as lovers; parents business deal falls apart, and one of the parents dies of heart attack; daughter of the deceased is pregnant for business partner’s son; partner’s son moves out, and gets job from a woman he spends a night in bed with. When a writer floats from one plot to the next, none of the emotions she evokes could be realized by the viewer.

The Princess Of My Heart.jpg 1 Chief Jumbo (Kofi Adjorlolo) meets Chief Mba  at a tennis exercise and Chief Mba is shrewdly lured into a shady business deal by Chief Jumbo. At a dinner at Chief Jumbo’s house his son, Kevin (Desmond Elliot) falls in love with Chief Mba’s daughter Chioma, (Ini Edo). While the family of Chief Mba espouses the affair of their daughter, Chief Jumbo do not want his son to have anything to do with Chioma, I guess knowing the outcome of his shady deal. When Chief Mba learns that Chief Jumbo dupes him out of 2.5 million dollars, and that the EFCC was on his tail, and soon after, the EFCC arrives to arrest him, he has heart attack. Meanwhile, Chioma and Kevin are at the beach.

Upon the discovery of the scam and the ultimate death of Chief Mba, Chioma and her remaining family loath Kevin but already, Chioma is pregnant for Kevin. Kevin has a stand off with his father and moves out in protest of his wicked and inhuman behavior. Yet, Kevin goes on to fall in love and sleeps with a woman because she offers him job. The story ends.

The Princess Of My Life has a poor resolution, that is, if there is any at all. When end credits run and you’re still sitting there looking at the fuzzy texts on the screen and you’re thinking, whatever happened to Chioma and her unborn child; What ever happened to the crook father of Kevin? All along, you’re assuming that this movie will end like a Greek tragedy or reversal of fortune: Kevin kills his father so he and his ‘princess of his life’ could manage his father’s business empire, and since he does not have a mother, then Chioma’s mother could be one, and bring her home since their property been confiscated. But for Kevin to run into another woman’s arm leaving Chioma in such distress, while at the same time carrying his baby is not logical in plot mechanics.

Woman On Top

By Ali Baylay

An Annex Merchandise Productions Film; Starring: St. Obi, Stephnie Okereke, Ifeoma Anyiam, Steve Eboh, Andy Chukwu,Uche Elendu, Cynthia Okereke, Chikezie Uwaizi, Esther Aikpokpoje, Nnamdi Eze; Story: Nwafor Anayo; Screenplay: Chuks Obiara; Editor: Iyke Okafor;  Production manager: Chie Jina Ephraim O; Executive  Producers: Nwafor Anayo; Producer: Nwafor Anayo; Director: Andy Chukwu. 108 Mins.  C 2006

Kevin, “you know what? You’re stupid….” (?), “I don’t mind calling me stupid, but to call my wife….” Kevin, “Nancy is not your wife and never will be…Well, we’ll see who gets hurt.”

Such is the heated confrontation this Nollywood piece presents for our viewing pleasure. And as a friend of Kevin could comment, “This is getting messy.” It rightly gets messy: one suitor of Nancy on his way to the alter gets kidnapped, another lover who offers Kevin millions of Nairas to give up his incessant desire for Nancy, is swept away by a gang of kidnappers before his traditional wedding ceremony with her could start. Ones Kevin knows he’s not going to get Nancy anymore he declares an all out war on her piece of mind, and it is a stand off after another, though Nancy couldn’t yield.

Woman On Top is a sour romance flick. It is the type that goes sour for everyone connected to the lovers: Nancy’s mother, her friends and Kevin’s friend. Kevin (St Obi) is a well-to-do businessman who falls in love with single mother’s daughter, Nancy (Stphnie Okereke). He assumes he’s on top of her love because he showers her with money. Nancy uses this head over heels type of fall to her advantage by pilfering money from Kevin in return for no love. Lies after lies and deceptions after deceptions on Nancy’s part the relationship continues.

Woman On TopBut when Nancy finally decides to break off from Kevin, and just when Nancy is about to get wed to another man, the man gets kidnapped. Nancy goes into hiding but is dug up by Kevin. Kevin falls under suspicion for the disappearance of Nancy’s groom, but soon released for lack of substance. The stand off between Kevin and Nancy continues and gets to a boiling point after Nancy discloses to Kevin that she’s not in love and has never been, and will never be in love with him. Nancy’s new boyfriend and would be husband approaches Kevin for a deal: Kevin should take so much nairas for all his troubles and expenses on Nancy. Now, Kevin feels really insulted. Shortly before Nancy could be traditionally betrothed, her fiancé gets kidnapped again.

I must give it straight to the screenwriter of this movie for his laconic and taut conversational dialogue, that didn’t waste on anything trivial. Every delivery is appropriately used and used economically for the screen. There’s enough tension and conflict that keeps the plot moving enough to keep viewers eye glued to the screen. Character development is one way of rounding up a screenplay to the point of resolution. We see Kevin’s character, the principal player in this movie come full circle. At first he’s a well dressed successful businessman but as the movie and tension progresses he’s become much more a hudlum, and a creepy one at that,  than the gentleman we meet at the beginning of the story.

Woman On Top is a remarkable ‘woman’s film’. Just as the name itself (on top) signifies, it is an African woman’s empowerment  movie. It is about time Nollywood recognizes the role of women in our films as not subservient to men but can as well stand up to their male counterparts in many aspects and get away with it. African culture and films have portrayed women as merely housewives, secretaries or other menial services in society. What Woman On Top does is to present to us a liberated fearless woman who can have her cake and eat it too.
