Film Board Staff Gets The Boot

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has suspended three staff, who allegedly embarked on unauthorised monitoring and raiding of films and video clubs. The Director-General of the Board, Mr Emeka Mba, made this known in an interview on Sunday in Abuja. He said the staff, from the Kaduna zonal office, were suspended following the recommendations of a Disciplinary Committee, which investigated allegations of gross misconduct leveled against them. He said the affected staff were also found to have been involved in extortion and illegal sale of DVDs seized from suspected pirates. He said besides forfeiting their salaries for the period they would be on suspension, the culprits would also be downgraded by one grade level.

Mba, who justified the decisions, said they would act as a deterrent to other workers, who would want to engage in activities that were inimical to the growth of the industry. He also disclosed that some staff were issued warning letters recently for misconduct, adding that they were also asked to refrain from all acts of indiscipline or face dismissal. The director-general advised members of the public to be vigilant and to insist on knowing the identities of persons, who posed as officials of the Board.
