Symony Production presents Tonto Dikeh (Cyrene), Yul Edochie (Jude) Eniola Badmus (Appolonia), Johnpaul Nwadeke (Leo) Director/Screenplay, Ubong Bassy Nya. C2012

I watched “GSN Scandal,”  movie  the other day and at curtain up, I sat for about thirty minutes looking at the silver screen in front of me but hardly knowing what I was gazing so hard at. It was not the film.  I was thinking about what the producers went through to come up with a project of this kind. Who may have given the go ahead for screening and the premier? My eyes and my brain were locked in a heated question and answer session for this no good movie.

BRAIN :       What did you see?

EYES:           I see a motley crew of young men wearing tuxedos, lined up against a railing by a swimming pool. They are been initiated into KNIGHTS OF ROMEO.

BRAIN:        Romeo… like a secret society of lovers?

EYE:             I did not see them loving.

BRAIN:        Why?

EYES:           Don’t know.   I’m not an initiate.

BRAIN:        Initiate into what?

EYES:          Your guess is good as mine.

BRAIN:       Then what after that?

EYES:          Let me think…Oh, I have got it. I see fifteen girls, belonging to another secret organization called The Wet Angels Elite Club lined up in a corridor and a man, in a  buku haram regalia, wheeled in in a chair for an inspection of a particular  initiate. His voice and face disguised and he’s little creepy.

BRAIN:        What do the girls do, and who’s this buku haram type character.?

EYES:          They escort.

BRAIN:        Who do they escort?

EYES:           Don’t know. I did not see them escort anyone.

BRAIN:        You have not said anything about the buku haram character.

EYE:             Except that his presence borders on funny and boogie man with a voice of a return of the dead. Creepy guy.  His presence did not say much and do much for the “Scandal”.

BRAIN:          What about the young men in the Tuxedos?

EYES:             What about them?

BRAIN:          Don’t ask me, I’m asking you.

EYES:           There’s nothing about them. The last I see of them is by the pool.

BRAIN:        Did you see any actor of repute in there,  I mean in “GSN Scandal?”

EYES:          One or two: Tonto Dikeh plays a character called Cyrene, the Queen Bee.  She’s the Mama G of the Wet Angels,  and she goes around sleeping with her sister’s husband.  Another is Yul Edochie. You remember the electrician handyman who sexed half the married women in “Pleasure and Crime?  He plays Jude, the leader of this group of slackers.

BRAIN:         Is there a supporting actor who catches your eyes for the fun of it…Memorable?

EYES:          Yes Appolonia, (Eniola Badmus). She’s the female version of Mr. Ibu in comedy and boy, do they look alike. She can crack you up. Another character, Leo (Johnpaul Nwadeke) joins the group of slackers in Jude’s nest. Leo can honestly crack you up too, believe me…In fact, Appolonia and Leo’s presence in the story are more or less a comic relief,  and  advancement of the story. Without these two, the movie is a sleeper.

BRAIN:        Now tell me the scandal of the story.

EYES:         ‘Scandal’ as thesaurus defines it?

BRAIN:        Oxford, Webster, whatever!

EYES:          Hey, please don’t be angry with me. Myself I have never been baffled by a film like this ever before…(beat) I should be honest with you, though, there’s an undercover police bust and one computer confiscated. Does that amount to a  scandal?

BRAIN:          You saw it with your own eyes and now asking me?

EYES:            I was expecting a fanfare of newspapers, tv cameras  and, radio stations, tabloids having a hay day, the entire Wet Angel Elite Club and the Knight of Romeos busted and handcuffed and taken downtown, for either telephone and computer scam, or prostitution etc.

BRAIN:          You should have said so from the beginning.

EYES:           That’s what I thought when in the prolog, Appolonia falls off the bike into a pool of water, recovers her GSN cell phone from the murky water and causes a scene with the biker. That is classic. I sure thought we are in for a comic treat.

BRAIN:         What do you think now…I mean GSN scandal?

EYES:            I don’t think, I see. You the brain,  you think. The ball is in your court.

BRAIN:          As such,  don’t do anything… remember what the sage says, ” murder but don’t dissect .”

EYE:              You said it. I kill it.
